Mason County Released Mugshots and Arrest Records
A booking photograph records a person’s appearance during a particular custody intake. Release from the Mason County Jail does not erase the source record merely because the person no longer appears in current custody. Illinois FOIA §2.15 lists a photograph “when and if available” among specified arrest-report information. It also names the date and time a person was received into, discharged from, or transferred from agency custody.
That language supports a focused request for an available photo and release entry. It does not require Mason County to run a public online gallery. Exemptions and other laws can protect juvenile, sealed, expunged, investigative, safety, security, or otherwise confidential material. Request a Mason Booking Photo
The local source is the Mason County Sheriff’s Office at 102 W. Market Street, Havana, Illinois 62644. Call 309-543-2231 to confirm the current FOIA submission email, office hours, and duplication fee before sending a written request. The county directory lists fax 309-543-3564. An older directory listed an email address, so confirming the currently designated inbox avoids sending personal identifiers to a stale address.
- Identify one booking. Give the full name, aliases, date of birth if known, approximate booking date, arresting agency, and court case or booking number.
- Name the records. Request the booking photograph when available, date and time received, date and time discharged or transferred, release authority or disposition code, and receiving agency or destination.
- Choose electronic copies. Ask for an electronic response and confirm any fee before authorizing paid duplication.
- Preserve partial access. If material is withheld, ask for the statutory exemption, factual basis, review rights, and all reasonably segregable public fields.
- Check the court result. Use the official Mason Circuit Clerk page and its Judici link to read the case disposition and later access orders.
A narrow request is easier to process than a demand for every file, message, and database entry. If Mason cannot find the record, confirm that the request names Mason County, Illinois, then supply alternate spellings and a tighter date range. Ask whether the person was booked for another authority or transferred to another agency.
Illinois Law for Mason County Mugshot Records
The official Illinois FOIA §2.15 text shows both the available-photo language and the custody receipt, discharge, and transfer fields.
The statute provides a stronger official basis than a copied commercial gallery. It also helps keep the photo connected to the correct booking and release event.
Section 2.15(e) separately limits law-enforcement publication of mugshots on its social-networking website for specified civil, petty, business, Class C, and Class B offenses unless a listed purpose applies, such as identifying a missing person, fugitive, person of interest, or wanted individual. This is not a universal rule that makes every underlying photo confidential. It explains why the absence of a Facebook image is not proof that no requestable source record exists.
Missing Mason Mugshots Remain Requestable
Mason County’s distinctive photo issue is the difference between publication and access. The reviewed official sources established no systematic sheriff social-media mugshot feed. Illinois law may restrict some law-enforcement social-network publication. Yet the arrest-report provision still includes an available photograph and the incarceration receipt, discharge, or transfer time.
Use that distinction when contacting the Sheriff. Ask whether the named booking photograph exists and is releasable. Do not demand that the office create a gallery or assume the photo is exempt merely because it was not posted online. If denied, request the exact exemption and segregable portions. A lawful restriction should be respected rather than bypassed through a cached or commercial copy.
IDOC Photos Are Not Mason Booking Records
The IDOC offender search offers an include-photo option for people in the state correctional system. IDOC policy also requires a photograph at release or discharge and electronically stores images. These are state corrections images. They are useful for matching an IDOC identity and status, but they do not become the Mason County Jail booking photo merely because the individual once passed through both systems.
Search IDOC only when the Mason court record or jail transfer shows commitment to state custody. Confirm the IDOC number, name, birth information, sentencing county, status, location, and date labels. A current-custody image does not itself establish release. An actual Parole Date or other state record supplies the relevant state event.
For eligible victim-notification registrants, the Prisoner Review Board has a separate channel to request a current photograph upon release. That limited service should not be described as a public gallery or as part of general VINELink access.
ISP Photos and Mason County Release Records
Illinois State Police registries cover only statutory categories. The Sex Offender Registry and the Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registry are not general Mason County inmate searches and do not prove the date someone left jail. Their photographs are current registration or identity records, not automatically local booking images.

Use a registry only when the person falls within that registry’s legal scope. The MVOAY system supports filters such as name, city, county, ZIP, compliance, incarcerated or out-of-state status, and a neighborhood map. A Mason County filter can reflect registration or location, not necessarily county of conviction or release.
ISP warns that information may be limited or supplied inaccurately and says source verification and correction begin with the registering law-enforcement agency. A record disappearing can reflect the end of a registration period, tolling, changed status, or another rule. It should not be rewritten as proof of a custody release.
Mason County Mugshot Source Limits
An official agency press release or a reputable local news report may preserve an image that was lawfully published at the time. Treat it as a lead and record its publication date. Confirm the person’s identity, custody event, and case outcome through the originating agency and court. No systematic Mason County news mugshot archive was established.
The Bureau of Prisons locator generally does not offer public mugshots. USMS commonly applies privacy and law-enforcement limits to prisoner photographs. A person held at Mason under federal authority may be transferred without becoming a searchable BOP prisoner immediately. Ask the Mason Sheriff for the receiving authority and use the federal court docket or proper federal records process. Do not relabel federal holding as immigration custody without supporting records.
Correcting Mason County Mugshot Records
Illinois sealing or expungement can change public access. It does not authorize recreating hidden records from secondary sources. If the Mason court result disappears, contact the Circuit Clerk to ask whether a public record exists and what lawful access method applies. Do not bypass juvenile, sealed, expunged, or confidential material.
Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act §2QQQ, 815 ILCS 505/2QQQ, addresses covered for-profit publishers of criminal-record information. It makes soliciting or accepting a fee to remove, correct, or modify that information unlawful and requires correction of documented errors within five business days, subject to statutory details and exceptions. Never pay a commercial mugshot publisher for removal. Send source-record errors to the originating agency and use the statutory correction path for a covered publisher’s documented error.
The most defensible workflow is narrow and factual: request the Mason booking photograph, compare identifiers, record the booking date, and read the public court disposition.
